An engaging historical profile of the legendary, East L.A.-based Chicano avant-garde art collective that took the 1980s by storm. These folks totally smashed traditional documentary rules by blending groundbreaking performance art with fierce political activism, turning the city streets into their own personal artistic canvas to aggressively take on the total lack of artistic representation in elite museums, mainstream news, and Hollywood.

Travis Gutiérrez Senger is a Mexican-American director, writer, and producer renowned for blending narrative and documentary styles to highlight bold, progressive cultural stories. His feature ASCO: Without Permission, which premiered at SXSW in 2025 and was executive produced by Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna—chronicles the influential 1970s Chicano avant-garde art collective.

"A powerful argument for the necessity of guerrilla art -- and for elevating the work of artists often lost to time." - Ryan Lattanzio. IndieWire

"This documentary offers a compelling look at a group of artists who challenged the status quo by boldly expressing their views through their work—punk, raw, and authentic." - Rosa Parra, The Latino Slant
