Jay Myself - LAST DAY!

Aug 26 to Aug 29
Monday to Thursday 3pm, 6:45

Stephen Wilkes - 2018 - 79m

A documenting of the monumental move of renowned photographer and artist, Jay Maisel, who, in February 2015 after forty-eight years, begrudgingly sold his home—the 36,000 square-foot, 100-year-old landmark building in Manhattan known simply as “The Bank.” Through the intimate lens of filmmaker and Jay’s protégé, noted artist and photographer Stephen Wilkes, the viewer is taken on a remarkable journey through Jay’s life as an artist, mentor, and man; a man grappling with time, life, change, and the end of an era in New York City.

“We witness not just an artist anxious about his uprooting, but also the anxiety of a city as it changes beyond recognition.” - Bedatri D. Choudhury, HYPERALLERGIC

“Amazing.” - Kevin Raber, THE LUMINOUS LANDSCAP

“Wilkes’ intimate camera work, pointed interview questions, and familiarity with Maisel allows us to leave the theater feeling like we too know Maisel. We identify with him and the impact such a move has had on him because I think we can all empathize on how we would feel in his position ... JAY MYSELF acts as an excellent last hurrah, a requiem if you will, for a little piece of NYC’s soul ... Wilkes has documented the end of an era of twin icons, Maisel and The Bank both.” - Michael Caputo, SHUFFLE ONLINE
