Dziga Vertov - 1929 - 68m

AN ALBUQUERQUE FILM CLUB CO-PRESENTATION!  TO BE SCREENED ON ACTUAL FILM!!

"I am the machine that reveals the world to you as only the machine can see it." - Dziga Vertov ("Kino-Eye")

An amazing & radical, freewheeling Russian documentary depicting the city of Moscow from sunrise to sunset through various self-reflexive camera play.  We get the filming of said documentary, and a depiction of an audience watching the film.  Even the editing of the film is documented.  We often see the cameraman who is purportedly making the film, but we rarely, if ever, see any of the footage he seems to be in the act of shooting!

The still innovative  silent was both praised and reviled upon its initial release!

“Cinema in its purest form: movement, sensation, action and visual trickery.” - Tom Huddleston, Time Out

“A truly radical and liberating work.” - Peter Watts, Time Out
